Chapter 4 - The Spider's Web

Julian returned to the estate at 1:00 AM. The massive house was dark, smelling of imported lilies and Vanessa’s suffocating, heavy perfume.

He found her in the master bedroom, asleep in the silk sheets that used to belong to Claire. Julian stood in the doorway, watching her chest rise and fall. He felt no anger, only the cold, mechanical precision of an executioner.

For the next three weeks, Julian played the role of the devoted, oblivious fiancé perfectly. He attended cake tastings. He smiled for the society photographers. He let Vanessa parade him around the city like a prized trophy. And all the while, he was silently dismantling her entire life.

Whenever Vanessa was in the shower, Julian was cloning her phone data. Whenever she was out with her friends, Julian was inside her private wall safe.

He found everything.

Vanessa was not just a manipulative socialite; she was a professional parasite. Julian uncovered records proving she had run this exact same con on two other wealthy executives in London and Dubai. She identified happily married men, orchestrated elaborate scandals to frame their wives, swooped in as the "supportive friend," and then secured her financial future through marriage and prenuptial extortion.

But Vanessa had made a fatal error with Julian. She hadn't just destroyed his marriage; she had endangered his children.

"I have the offshore accounts completely mapped," Marcus reported one afternoon while Julian was supposedly at a board meeting. "She’s been siphoning your corporate funds into a trust in the Bahamas. About four million dollars so far."

"Leave it," Julian commanded, staring out the window of his office.

"Leave it? Boss, she’s stealing from you."

"If we freeze it now, she'll know I'm onto her and she'll run," Julian explained, a dark smile playing on his lips. "Let her think she's winning. We are going to let her put on her wedding dress. We are going to let her invite the entire city. And then, we are going to burn her to the ground in front of everyone she knows."
