Chapter 7 - The Grand Illusion Shatters

Cassandra's smile froze on her face, her eyes darting between me and Victor in sheer panic.

"Julian, honey, what are you talking about?" she asked, her voice cracking slightly.

"You can barely hear a word we are saying, let alone read complex legal jargon with your migraines."

I reached up and pulled the fake medical earpieces out of my ears, tossing them casually onto the table.

"Actually, my hearing is perfect," I announced, leaning back in my leather chair.

"It is amazing how quickly one recovers when they stop drinking neurotoxins every night."

Victor's face drained of all color, his hands gripping the edges of the table so hard his knuckles turned white.

Cassandra stood up quickly, her chair scraping loudly against the polished floor.

"He is having a delusion!" Cassandra cried out to the board. "The doctors warned me the brain damage would cause paranoia!"

I pulled a small, black audio remote from my pocket and pressed a single button.

The large presentation screen behind Victor flickered to life, bypassing the corporate network entirely.

A crisp, high-definition audio file began to play through the boardroom's surround sound speakers.

It was a recording I had captured two nights ago, using hidden microphones I had installed in the estate's library.

“He is deteriorating exactly on schedule,” Cassandra’s recorded voice echoed through the room.

“Make sure the proxy papers are ironclad, Victor. Once he signs, I will up the dosage and finish him off before the wedding.”

“Just don't get sloppy, Clara,” Victor’s recorded voice replied coldly. “I want the company, you want the money. Stick to the plan.”

The board members gasped, several of them pushing their chairs away from Victor as if he were radioactive.

Cassandra stared at the speakers in absolute horror, realizing her entire empire of lies was crumbling into dust.
