Chapter 9 - The Raid

By dawn, the FBI had mobilized a massive tactical unit based on the coordinates found on the drive.
I sat in a secure safe house, wrapped in a blanket, watching the news unfold on a small television.
The cartel's main operational hub, hidden in an abandoned meatpacking plant outside Columbus, was raided.
Dozens of high-ranking members were arrested, and millions of dollars in illegal assets were seized.
Agent Vance visited me later that afternoon, bringing me a hot meal and a cup of real coffee.
"It's over," she told me with a reassuring smile.
"The local police moles have been arrested, and the cartel's leadership is in federal custody."
I felt a massive weight lift off my shoulders, but it was immediately replaced by a profound sadness.
"What about my parents?" I asked, looking down at my hands.
"They're facing federal charges for money laundering, kidnapping, and conspiracy," she answered softly.
"They will likely spend the rest of their lives in prison."
I nodded slowly, realizing that the family I thought I had was just a carefully constructed lie.
