Chapter 10 - The Golden Future

One year to the day after the infamous party, the Harrington family gathered again.

This time, the party was not hosted on a sprawling estate with hired actors and edible gold.

It was held in the cozy, warm backyard of Clara and David’s beautiful new home.

The trees were strung with fairy lights, and the smell of homemade barbecue filled the air.

Lily was turning nine today, and she was wearing a bright purple dress, her face glowing with absolute joy.

There were no plastic stools near the garbage bins.

Instead, there was one massive, long wooden table where everyone sat together as equals.

Eleanor was sitting at the head of the table, smiling brightly as she watched David flip burgers on the grill.

Leo had been invited, of course, and he was currently sitting on the grass with Lily, looking through a brand new, highly advanced telescope David had bought for them to share.

Even Julian was there, having been thoroughly humbled by his family's financial collapse, sitting quietly and respectfully eating his food.

Clara walked out onto the patio carrying a massive, homemade chocolate cake covered in uneven, joyful sprinkles.

The entire family began to sing Happy Birthday, their voices blending into a beautiful, chaotic melody.

Lily closed her eyes tightly, making a wish before blowing out all nine candles in a single breath.

The crowd cheered, and David swooped in, lifting his daughter high into the air as she giggled uncontrollably.

Clara leaned against the wooden railing, watching her family thrive in the warm evening light.

She had survived the grueling shifts, the cruel whispers, and the painful sacrifices.
