Chapter 5 - The Siege of the Palisades

The underground bunker was buried three stories beneath the Rossi mansion.
It was stocked with medical supplies, rations, and an arsenal of weapons.
Camila sat on a steel cot, shaking uncontrollably as she rocked Leo in her arms.
Elena quickly opened her medical bag and checked the baby’s vitals to ensure the loud noises hadn't sent him into shock.
"He's okay," Elena reassured the terrified mother.
"His heart rate is elevated, but he is completely unharmed."
Camila looked at the young nurse with profound gratitude.
"You risked your life for us again."
"You didn't have to throw that lamp."
Elena offered a tight, adrenaline-fueled smile.
"I promised to protect my patients."
Above them, the muffled sounds of warfare echoed through the reinforced ceiling.
Dante was unleashing the full, terrifying might of his empire.
He moved through his shattered home like a phantom, eliminating the Moretti assassins with brutal efficiency.
He did not use a silencer.
He wanted them to hear the roaring fury of a father defending his bloodline.
In the grand foyer, he cornered the leader of the hit squad.
The man was bleeding from his shoulder, scrambling backward across the marble floor.
"Wait, Rossi, please!" the assassin begged.
"It was your mother!"
Dante froze, the barrel of his shotgun pointed directly at the man's chest.
"What did you just say?"
The assassin coughed up blood, desperate to buy a few more seconds of life.
"Beatrice went to the Moretti boss."
"She gave us the security codes to the estate."
"She said if we eliminated you and your wife, she would take the baby and give us the northern ports."
A chilling silence fell over the destroyed mansion.
Dante’s eyes went completely dead.
His own mother had signed his death warrant just to steal his child.
Dante pulled the trigger, ending the assassin's life instantly.
He pulled out his phone and dialed his most ruthless lieutenant.
