Chapter 4 - The Syndicate Strikes Back

Three weeks passed since Beatrice was exiled.

The Rossi estate had transformed from a tense fortress into a quiet sanctuary.

Leo was thriving, gaining weight, and laughing out loud for the very first time.

Camila and Dante were navigating a fragile truce, eating dinner together every night and sharing the duties of parenthood.

But in the criminal underworld, weakness is always punished.

Without Beatrice’s iron grip on the northern territories, a rival syndicate saw an opening.

The Moretti family had been waiting for decades to dethrone Dante Rossi.

It was a rainy Tuesday night when the perimeter alarms of the estate suddenly went dead.

Dante was in his study, reviewing shipping manifests, when his head of security burst through the door.

"Boss, we have a breach!" the guard yelled, pulling his weapon.

"Multiple hostiles converging on the east wing!"

Dante’s blood ran completely cold.

The east wing was the nursery.

He grabbed the customized tactical shotgun mounted under his desk and sprinted down the hallway.

Gunfire erupted outside, shattering the massive floor-to-ceiling windows and sending glass raining across the Persian rugs.

Inside the nursery, Camila grabbed Leo from his crib and dove behind the heavy velvet sofa.

The baby began to cry, confused by the sudden noise and chaos.

Suddenly, the nursery door flew open.

It wasn't a hitman.

It was Elena Vargas, drenched in rain, holding her medical bag.

She had been visiting for a routine check-up when the ambush started.

"Camila!" Elena shouted over the sound of bullets tearing through the walls.

"We have to move to the panic room right now!"

Camila crawled across the floor, clutching her son to her chest.

Before they could reach the hallway, a masked gunman stepped into the doorway, raising an automatic rifle.

Elena did not think.

She grabbed the heavy glass lamp from the nightstand and hurled it directly at the man's head.

The glass shattered against his skull, causing his shot to go wildly into the ceiling.

A second later, Dante appeared behind the gunman and ruthlessly snapped his neck.

Dante stepped over the body, his face covered in rain and absolute fury.

"Get to the bunker," Dante ordered, his voice echoing like thunder.

"I am going to slaughter every single one of them."
