Chapter 7 - The Beggar at the Gates

Maya stared silently at the tablet, watching the woman who had made her life a living hell.

Victoria was not wearing an elegant designer gown today.

She was drenched in freezing rain, her hair plastered to her face, screaming wildly at the security guards.

"Should I have them forcibly remove her?" Alexander asked, taking a calm sip of his tea.

Maya thought for a long moment.

The old Maya would have hidden in her luxurious bedroom.

The new Evangeline Hawthorne was entirely different.

"No," Maya said, standing up from the table.

"Let her in."

Ten minutes later, Victoria was escorted into the grand, cavernous foyer.

She was dripping muddy water onto the pristine marble floors, shivering violently from the cold.

Maya walked down the stairs slowly, radiating an aura of untouchable, terrifying power.

She wore a simple but staggeringly expensive silk dress that moved like liquid gold.

Victoria looked up, and the familiar hatred in her eyes was momentarily replaced by sheer awe.

Maya looked exactly like the billionaire heiress she was born to be.

"Maya, please," Victoria sobbed, dropping dramatically to her bruised knees.

"You have to tell your ruthless grandfather to stop this attack."

"The banks took our historic house this morning."

"They froze every single one of our personal and corporate accounts."

"We have absolutely nothing left in the world."

Maya stood five feet away, looking down at the pathetic, broken woman.

"I vividly recall you telling me that an orphan would always be nothing."

Victoria flinched violently as her own cruel words were thrown back in her face.

"I was angry, I was just overly stressed about the corporate merger!" Victoria pleaded.

"I didn’t mean any of those horrible things!"

"You are the mother of my only grandson!"

Maya laughed softly.

It was a cold, sharp sound that echoed ominously in the massive hall.

"He wasn’t your grandson when you slapped me in front of hundreds of people."

"He was just a mistake, remember?"

Victoria crawled forward, desperately trying to grab the hem of Maya’s dress.

The massive security guards immediately stepped in, kicking Victoria’s hand away.

"Please, Maya, Julian is going insane," Victoria cried.

"If you just give us a small, million-dollar loan, we can leave the country and never bother you again."

Maya looked at Victoria with absolute, sickening disgust.

"You came here to beg for money, not to offer a genuine apology."

"You haven’t changed at all, you are just terrified."

Maya turned her back on her former mother-in-law without a shred of hesitation.

"Throw her out into the rain," Maya ordered the guards.

"And if she steps foot on my property again, have her arrested for criminal trespassing."

May you like

Victoria screamed in agony as the guards dragged her out by her arms.

Maya didn’t even look back as the massive doors slammed shut.
