Chapter 9 - The Execution

I walked down the dark, deserted street two blocks away from the estate, my heart pounding a steady rhythm in my chest.

The streetlights flickered overhead, casting long, eerie shadows across the wet pavement.

Suddenly, a black van screeched around the corner, slamming on its brakes just inches from where I stood.

The side door slid open, and Marcus stepped out, holding a gun and looking like a feral, desperate animal.

"Well, well, if it isn't the runaway wife," he sneered, aiming his weapon at my chest.

"Give me the Falcone brat, Elara, and maybe I'll let you live."

I stood perfectly still, clutching the carrier tightly, looking at the man who had destroyed my life.

"You are pathetic, Marcus," I said loudly, ensuring the hidden microphone picked up every word.

"You kill women and babies because you are too weak to fight real men."

His face twisted in pure, ugly rage, and he cocked the hammer of his gun.

"Shut up and give me the kid!" he screamed, stepping forward to grab the carrier.

Before his hand could even touch the fabric, a deafening crack split the night air.

Marcus froze, his eyes widening in shock as a dark red bloom appeared on his right shoulder.

He dropped his gun, screaming in agony as he fell to his knees on the wet asphalt.

From the shadows of the alleyways, dozens of Gabriel’s men stepped out, surrounding the van completely.

Gabriel walked out from the darkness, his sniper rifle slung casually over his shoulder, his eyes burning with lethal intent.

He walked past me, placing himself between me and the bleeding monster on the ground.

"You touched my woman, and you tried to kill my son," Gabriel said, his voice echoing with absolute authority.

Marcus looked up, weeping and begging for mercy, pleading for his miserable life.

Gabriel pulled a pistol from his waistband, his expression completely devoid of any emotion.

"This is for Maya," Gabriel said coldly.

He pulled the trigger, and the nightmare was finally, permanently over.
