Chapter 8 - The Bait

The plan was incredibly dangerous, but it was the only way to draw Marcus out of his heavily fortified rat hole.
We returned to the Falcone estate, which had been completely reclaimed and secured by Gabriel’s loyal men.
Gabriel leaked a piece of false information to the remaining traitors in the Russian syndicate.
He let them believe that I had betrayed him, that I was fleeing the estate alone with Mateo at midnight.
"I hate this," Gabriel growled, pacing the floor of his massive office while I packed a decoy baby bag.
"If he gets even one inch too close to you, I will tear his head off with my bare hands."
"He won't," I said calmly, placing a weighted doll wrapped in blankets into the baby carrier.

"You are wearing a Kevlar vest, and you have the tracker in your shoe," Gabriel reminded me, stopping to grip my shoulders.
"I will be watching you through the scope of a sniper rifle the entire time."
I looked up into his dark, beautiful eyes, feeling absolutely no fear.
"I trust you, Gabriel."
He leaned down and kissed me, a searing, desperate kiss that tasted like whiskey and absolute devotion.
"When this is over, you are never working as a maid again," he whispered against my lips.

"You are going to rule this family by my side."
I smiled, grabbed the decoy carrier, and walked out the front doors into the freezing night air.
