Chapter 19 - The New Queen

Damian didn't drop to one knee. He knew Harper didn't care for traditional subservience. Instead, he opened a small velvet box and placed it on her palm.
Inside rested a flawless, emerald-cut diamond ring. It wasn't gaudy or oversized; it was elegant, fiercely sharp, and perfect.
“A year ago, I tried to give you a million dollars to prove you were just like everyone else,” Damian said, looking deep into her eyes. “You threw it back in my face. You taught me that true loyalty, true love, cannot be bought. It has to be earned.”
Harper’s breath hitched, tears springing to her eyes.
“I have spent every day since trying to earn you, Harper,” Damian continued, his voice thick with emotion. “I don't want you to be my assistant. I don't want you to be my weakness. I want you to be my wife. My queen. The only person in this world I answer to.”
Harper looked at the ring, then up at the man who had completely reshaped her reality. The kingpin who had learned to love.
“Does this mean I finally get to fire Marcus for his terrible driving?” she teased, a tear slipping down her cheek.
“You can fire anyone you want,” Damian smiled. “Will you marry me?”

“Yes,” Harper whispered, throwing her arms around his neck. “Yes, you terrifying, arrogant, wonderful man. Yes.”
Damian slid the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly. He kissed her, a deep, consuming promise of forever. He had built his empire on fear, but he would build his future on her.
