Chapter 9 - The Final Word

Chloe’s face twisted into an ugly snarl, and she raised her voice, trying to cause a scene.

“You stole my fiancé and you stole my future!” she shouted, drawing the attention of several nearby guests.

Eleanor, who had been speaking with the mayor across the room, immediately began marching toward us.

But I didn't need Eleanor to fight my battles anymore.

“I didn't steal Liam, he ran away from you because you showed him the monster you truly are,” I said loudly, commanding the space.

“And I didn't steal your future, you threw it away the second you told the sister who burned for you to hide in the back row.”

The surrounding guests gasped, clearly recognizing Chloe from the viral video.

“You are a bitter, selfish child, Chloe, and I am entirely done being your collateral damage,” I finished, my voice steady as a rock.

Security guards, alerted by the commotion, quickly approached us.

“Ma'am, I am going to have to ask you to leave,” a large guard said, placing a firm hand on Chloe’s arm.

She tried to shake him off, screaming obscenities and crying fake tears, but nobody in the room felt an ounce of sympathy.

As they dragged her out of the ballroom, I turned back to the crowd.

I didn't apologize for the interruption; I merely smiled and smoothed my emerald gown.

Eleanor placed a proud hand on my shoulder, squeezing gently.

“It is time for your speech, Director,” she whispered.

I rolled my wheelchair toward the stage, feeling lighter than air.
