Chapter 6 - The Hidden Fortune
I stared at the complicated legal documents spread across my kitchen table.
“What morality clause? What are you talking about, Marcus?” I asked, completely confused.
Marcus pointed to a signature at the bottom of an old trust fund document.
It was the signature of Emma’s biological father, David, who had died in a car accident when Emma was just a baby.
“David was secretly the illegitimate son of Julian’s grandfather,” Marcus revealed, dropping a massive bombshell.
My mind reeled as I tried to process the information.
David had never mentioned having a wealthy family; he was a humble mechanic when I met him.
“Before the grandfather died, he felt guilty and secretly amended his will,” Marcus continued.
“He left thirty percent of the Vance family empire in a blind trust for David’s only heir, which is Emma.”
I gasped, covering my mouth with my hands.
My little girl was legally entitled to hundreds of millions of dollars.
“The money unlocks on her eighteenth birthday, unless the heir is convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude, like theft,” Marcus explained.
Everything clicked into place in a horrifying instant.
Julian didn't hate Emma; he hated what she represented.
He framed her for stealing the jewelry hoping it would result in a juvenile record, legally disqualifying her from the inheritance.
If Emma lost her claim, the millions would revert directly back into Julian’s pockets.
He hit her with the sign out of sheer frustration when she vehemently denied the theft and ruined his perfect plan.
“They tried to destroy a seven-year-old’s life over greed,” I whispered, absolute disgust filling my soul.
Marcus nodded, his eyes cold and calculating.
“They thought you were a poor, defenseless widow they could easily crush,” Marcus said.
“But we have the video, we have the trust documents, and we are going to court to take everything they own.”
