Chapter 5 - THE POLICE ARRIVE

The flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers illuminated the massive windows of the mansion.
Julian’s private security team had successfully detained Victoria until the authorities arrived.
Two heavily armed detectives walked into the nursery, their faces stern and serious.
Julian handed them the stolen bank receipt and explained the entire horrifying situation.
Victoria was violently sobbing in the corner, trying desperately to play the innocent victim.
“She is framing me!” Victoria screamed as the detectives pulled her roughly to her feet.
“I am a respected socialite, you cannot put handcuffs on me!”
The lead detective completely ignored her protests and secured the heavy metal cuffs around her wrists.
“Victoria Sterling, you are officially under arrest for attempted murder and kidnapping,” the detective stated coldly.
They dragged her kicking and screaming out of the beautiful nursery and down the grand staircase.
The house staff watched in absolute shock as the glamorous woman in the red dress was hauled away.
Julian stood by the nursery window, watching the police cars speed down the long driveway.
The nightmare that had haunted his family for four agonizing years was finally coming to an end.
He turned around and looked at Clara, who was sitting on the edge of their daughters' beds.
She was gently stroking the girls' hair as they slept peacefully through the chaos.
Julian walked over and sat beside her, taking her small, scarred hand in his own.
“We have so much lost time to make up for,” Julian said softly.

Clara smiled, a genuine, beautiful smile that he thought he would never see again.
“We have the rest of our lives, Julian.”
