Chapter 6 - The Father's Downfall
Up in the penthouse executive suite, Richard Vance was currently pacing a hole into the expensive carpet.
He was frantically screaming into his cell phone, trying to hold his crumbling business together.
"What do you mean the banks are pulling our credit line?!" Richard yelled, his face turning purple.
"Julian Sterling cannot legally blacklist us from the entire hospitality industry!"
But Julian absolutely could, and he already had.
By pulling his massive contracts, Julian had sent a loud, clear signal to every other luxury hotel chain in the country.
Nobody wanted to do business with a company that had directly insulted the Sterling family.
Richard ended the call and threw his expensive phone violently against the wall, shattering the screen.
Chloe sat huddled on the plush sofa, crying silently, finally realizing the catastrophic magnitude of her actions.
"You ruined us, Chloe," Richard sneered, turning his wrath onto his daughter.
"Thirty years of building this company, and you destroyed it with a mimosa and a temper tantrum!"
Chloe sobbed louder, burying her face in her hands.
"I didn't know!" she cried defensively.
"It doesn't matter what you knew!" her father screamed back.
Their argument was interrupted by a sharp, authoritative knock on the penthouse door.
Two sharply dressed corporate lawyers entered the room, flanked by heavily armed security personnel.
"Mr. Vance, we are serving you with formal eviction papers from this property," the lead lawyer announced smoothly.
"Furthermore, we are delivering notice of an impending audit regarding the inflated invoices you submitted to Sterling Enterprises last quarter."
Richard's knees actually buckled at the mention of the audit.
He had been skimming off the top of his luxury linen contracts for years, assuming no one would ever notice.
