Chapter 15 - The Purge

The conviction of Marcus Thorne was just the first domino to fall.
With the federal task force fully embedded in the corrupt small town, the purge of the sheriff's department was ruthless and comprehensive. Sheriff Boyd took a plea deal, agreeing to serve ten years in federal prison in exchange for giving up the names of every corrupt official in the county.

She leaned back in her rocking chair, a profound sense of peace settling over her features. “You saved my life, Evelyn. I don't know how I will ever repay you.”
“You raised me to be strong, Mom,” I replied, looking out at the horizon. “That’s the only repayment I ever needed.”
