Chapter 5 - The Corporate Sabotage

Julian returned home late that night, looking utterly exhausted. He loosened his tie and poured a heavy glass of scotch.
“What’s wrong?” Clara asked, stepping into his study and wrapping her arms around his shoulders from behind.
“Sterling Dynamics just submitted a bid for the Project Titan contract that undercuts us by fifty million dollars,” Julian sighed, leaning his head back against her. “Someone leaked our exact numbers. We are going to lose the contract, and our stock is going to freefall tomorrow morning.”
Clara frowned. She had spent the last month reading Julian’s business books in the library, desperately trying to catch up on his world so she could be a true partner.
“Julian,” Clara said softly, stepping around the desk. “Sterling Dynamics doesn't have the manufacturing infrastructure to fulfill that contract at that price point. Not without outsourcing to unregulated factories.”
Julian looked at her, surprised. “How do you know that?”
“I read the supplier reports from last year,” Clara said simply. “If they undercut you by fifty million, they are cutting corners on the microchips. If you go to the defense board tomorrow and prove that Sterling’s supply chain violates federal security regulations, their bid will be disqualified entirely.”
Julian stared at his wife. He had married her for her heart, her resilience, and her beauty. He hadn't realized he had married a strategic genius.
“You’re right,” Julian breathed, his eyes lighting up with fierce determination. “My god, Clara, you’re absolutely right.”
The next morning, Julian walked into the Pentagon briefing room. Richard Sterling was already celebrating, assuming he had won. But Julian ruthlessly dismantled Sterling’s entire supply chain, proving it was a national security risk.
By noon, Vance Enterprises secured the contract. By 1:00 PM, Sterling Dynamics' stock crashed.
When Julian returned home, he didn't go to his study. He found Clara in the garden, helping Maya plant roses. He picked his wife up by the waist, spinning her around in the sunlight.

“You saved my company,” he laughed, kissing her deeply.
Eleanor’s plot had failed. And worse, she had underestimated the maid.
