Chapter 8 - Rebuilding the Ruins

The divorce became official on a cold morning in November.
I did not contest a single clause, signing the final decree with a heavy hand and a hollow chest.
Without the company to run, I found myself with unlimited time and zero purpose.
I sold the massive Denver mansion, unable to stomach the echoing rooms, and bought a modest cabin in the foothills of the Rockies.
For a year, I threw myself into physical labor, chopping wood, repairing the cabin, and trying to sweat the guilt out of my system.
