Chapter 7 - Unexpected Grace

A week into the media storm, the vicious headlines suddenly stopped.
I turned on the television to see a written statement from Rebecca being read by an anchor on the evening news.
She had broken her silence, not to defend me, but to protect the truth from being twisted into a cheap tabloid drama.
Her statement clarified that while our marriage ended due to my infidelity, Madeline’s claims of corporate abuse and coercion were completely false.
Rebecca stated that she left by her own choice and asked the media to respect her privacy as she moved forward with her life.
She had saved my public reputation and protected me from complete ruin, even after I had broken her heart.
A few days later, a simple postcard arrived in my mailbox with an Oregon postmark.

The handwritten note on the back read, "Do not mistake my statement for forgiveness; I just refuse to let lies write the end of our story."
I framed that postcard and placed it on my desk, a daily reminder of the incredible woman I had failed to appreciate.
