Chapter 4 - Confrontation in the Rain

The next morning, driven by a toxic mix of grief and possessiveness, I pushed open the door to the bakery.
The bell chimed softly, and Rebecca froze as she turned around and recognized the man standing in her new sanctuary.
Her eyes did not hold anger, only a profound exhaustion that cut deeper than any scream or accusation ever could.
"You were not supposed to find me, Gabriel," she said softly, wiping her hands on a white apron.
I stepped closer, desperate to bridge the chasm between us, but she instinctively took a step back.
"I flew across the country because I am completely lost without you, and I will give up the company today if you just come back," I pleaded.
The man from yesterday emerged from the back room, holding a drill and looking between the two of us with protective suspicion.
"Is this guy bothering you, Becca?" he asked, his voice steady and calm, anchoring her in a way I never did.
May you like
She shook her head slowly, keeping her eyes locked on mine with devastating finality.
"He isn't bothering me, Ethan, he was just leaving," she replied, her voice breaking my heart into a thousand irreparable pieces.
