Chapter 14 - The Aftermath

The remaining Moretti guards surrendered immediately, dropping their weapons as Gabriel's men flooded the floor.
Sebastian didn't care about them. His legs gave out. He crashed to his knees on the concrete, gasping in agony as the adrenaline faded.
Claire was already moving. Gabriel had cut her ties, and she sprinted across the floor, sliding to her knees beside Sebastian.
"You stupid, stubborn, beautiful idiot," she cried, grabbing his face in her hands.
"Are you hurt?" he demanded, scanning her bruised lip.
"I'm fine. But you've probably torn every muscle in your quads," she scolded, tears streaming down her face as she wrapped her arms around him.
Sebastian buried his face in her neck, holding her tight against his chest. Surrounded by dead bodies and the smoke of gunfire, the ruthless mafia boss looked completely at peace.
"I'd tear them a hundred times over to keep you safe," he whispered.
Gabriel brought the wheelchair over. "Boss. Time to go home. The city is yours."

Sebastian looked at Claire. "Help me up, Doc."
Together, Claire and Gabriel lifted him back into his chair. But as they rolled out of the steel mill, Sebastian reached out and took Claire's hand, lacing his fingers through hers. He didn't let go.
