Chapter 12 - Into the Dark

"He wants me alone," Sebastian told Gabriel, strapping a Kevlar vest over his dress shirt.
"Boss, it's suicide," Gabriel pleaded. "Let me take a strike team. We'll blow the roof off the steel mill."
"If we go in loud, they kill her instantly," Sebastian said, his voice terrifyingly calm. He reached down and adjusted the dials on his titanium knee braces. "I go in through the front. You take the snipers to the catwalks. Wait for my signal."
"What's the signal?"
"When I stand up," Sebastian said coldly.
Gabriel stared at him. "You can only walk a few steps. You're not ready for a firefight on your feet."
"I am ready to kill for her," Sebastian replied.

He rolled himself into the back of the specially modified transport van. He checked his weapons—two customized M1911 pistols, heavy and deadly. He looked at his legs. They were throbbing with phantom pain, the nerves screaming from the abuse of the hospital shootout.
Just give me five minutes, Sebastian prayed to a God he hadn't spoken to in two decades. Give me five minutes on these legs, and I'll never ask for a miracle again.
