Chapter 11 - The Final PushInside the locked medical suite, the sounds of the brutal gunfight were muffled but still terrifyingly present.

Elise screamed, a primal, guttural sound of pure agony as her body was forced to complete the grueling task of bringing a life into the world.

“You have to push, Elise!” Dr. Aris yelled over the distant sound of shattering glass and rapid gunfire.

“The baby’s heart rate is dropping because of the stress; we need to get him out now!”

Elise gripped the metal side rails of the hospital bed, her knuckles turning completely white.

She drew in a massive, ragged breath and pushed with every ounce of strength remaining in her exhausted, trembling body.

Tears streamed down her face, mixing with the heavy sweat coating her skin.

All she could think about was Julian, out there in the crossfire, risking his life against overwhelming odds just to buy her time.

“I can’t do it!” she sobbed, falling back against the pillows, her chest heaving as she gasped for air.

“Yes, you can,” Dr. Aris insisted firmly, checking the monitors with frantic urgency.

“I can see the head, Elise, you are almost there.”

Another massive crash shook the floorboards, followed by the terrifying, chilling sound of Julian’s furious, roaring voice echoing through the walls.

The realization that her husband was fighting a war for their survival ignited a sudden, fierce spark of maternal adrenaline deep within her.

She would not let Julian’s sacrifice be in vain.

She would not let Elias Sterling win this war.

Elise gritted her teeth, letting out a fierce cry that rivaled the chaos outside, and pushed with a desperate, overwhelming force.

“That’s it!” the doctor encouraged loudly.

“One more big push, Elise, give me everything you have!”

She squeezed her eyes shut, bearing down through the blinding, tearing pain that threatened to rip her entirely in half.

And then, suddenly, the agonizing pressure vanished, replaced by a sudden, shocking emptiness.

For one terrifying second, the room was completely silent.

Then, a sharp, angry, beautiful wail filled the sterile medical room, piercing through the ambient noise of the battle raging outside.
