Chapter 8 - The Walls Close In
The ambulance took Vivian away. She was alive, but the doctors were completely baffled by the rare toxin in her blood.
The house was empty save for Richard, Clara, and Elena.
Richard locked the front doors and pulled a revolver from his coat. The charming facade was gone, replaced by a desperate, cornered animal.
He marched up the grand staircase to the master bedroom. Clara was sitting by the fireplace, sipping tea, perfectly calm.
“You remember,” Richard hissed, leveling the gun at her chest. “You’ve remembered everything this whole time.”
Clara didn't flinch. She set her teacup down. “I never forgot, Richard. Not a single second of the darkness.”
“You poisoned Vivian!”
“No, Richard,” Clara smiled chillingly. “You poisoned Vivian. I just let her drink your toast.”

Richard cocked the gun. “I’ll shoot you and the maid. I’ll say you had a mental break, killed her, and I had to shoot you in self-defense.”
“You could say that,” Clara replied, leaning back in her chair. “If we were alone.”
