Chapter 6 - The Interrogation Room

Deep inside the gloomy police precinct, the arrogant facade of the perfect suburban couple completely shattered under pressure.

Detective Harris purposefully separated Mark and Claudia into two different, windowless interrogation rooms.

He started with my pathetic son, tossing the massive stack of forged life insurance policies directly onto the metal table.

“Your own father handed these over to us, Mark,” the detective stated coldly, pulling out a metal chair.

Mark immediately began to sob uncontrollably, his face buried deeply in his trembling, handcuffed hands.

“It was entirely her idea, I swear to God I never actually wanted to hurt my boy,” Mark cried desperately.

“She told me that we were drowning in massive credit card debt, and that the insurance money was our only way out of absolute bankruptcy.”

Mark eagerly confessed to everything, desperately hoping to secure a lighter prison sentence by completely throwing his wife under the bus.

He admitted that Claudia had purchased the dangerous chemicals online using a fake name and a hidden cryptocurrency account.

He confessed that he had cowardly looked the other way every single morning when she handed Ethan the poisoned pills.

In the next room, Claudia was completely losing her mind, screaming loudly for her expensive defense attorney.

When Detective Harris finally walked in and played the audio recording of her husband’s total confession, her arrogant face went completely pale.

Her perfectly styled hair was a complete mess, and the expensive green Christmas dress was wrinkled and stained with sweat.

“He is a pathetic, weak liar,” Claudia hissed venomously, aggressively slamming her manicured hands on the table.

“Mark was the one who desperately wanted the boy gone because Ethan constantly reminded him of his dead first wife.”

The detectives simply smiled at her pathetic attempt to shift the heavy blame.

They had already successfully recovered the deleted search history from her encrypted laptop, proving she was the sole mastermind behind the entire deadly plot.

They had security footage of her illegally opening a secret post office box to receive the toxic chemicals in the mail.

The evidence against her was absolutely overwhelming, completely crushing any small chance she had of walking away a free woman.

By the end of the long, exhausting day, both of them were officially charged with first-degree attempted murder and massive insurance fraud.

They were heavily denied bail by a disgusted judge who called their despicable actions the ultimate betrayal of family trust.
