Chapter 5 - The Broker

Tears blurred my vision as I read through the horrifying contract.
My parents had traded their own flesh and blood for the seed money to start their real estate empire.
But Nora’s folder wasn't the only one.
There were files for "Michael," "Chloe," and "David."
They were children from my mother’s charity foundation for underprivileged families.
My parents weren't just terrible people; they were running a high-society child trafficking ring.
I reached for the very last folder in the cabinet.
It was bright pink, and it had Lily’s name written on it.
I opened it and saw a completely finalized contract.
Lily was supposed to be picked up on the day of my engagement party.
The buyer was listed only as "V. Croft."
Vanessa Croft.
The champagne, the pink decorations, the smile on the porch.
Vanessa wasn't just my parents' adopted niece.
She was the broker.
She had arrived at the party to collect my daughter.
Suddenly, the floorboards behind me creaked.
"You always were too nosy for your own good, Sarah."
May you like
I spun around.
Vanessa was standing at the top of the attic ladder, holding a suppressed pistol.
