Chapter 6 - The Paper Trail

With Greg sitting in the county jail facing multiple felony charges, Vanessa was completely isolated. But she was still dangerous. She hired a sleazy defense attorney and began preparing for the permanent custody hearing.

She continued her smear campaign online, claiming Greg’s arrest was a “misunderstanding” and that I had orchestrated the entire school incident to frame him.

I needed a kill shot. I needed undeniable proof that their home was not just toxic, but systematically destroyed by their own actions.

Elena, my lawyer, subpoenaed their financial records. What we found was staggering.

We sat in Elena’s office, looking at bank statements spread across the table.

“It’s worse than gambling,” Elena said, pointing with her pen. “Greg has been taking out payday loans in Chloe’s name. He stole her social security number. He’s ruined her credit before she even turns eighteen.”

My stomach churned. “How much?”

“Over twenty thousand dollars. And Vanessa?” Elena slid another paper toward me. “Vanessa hasn't been paying the mortgage for eight months. She’s been funneling the money into a secret separate account. She was preparing to leave Greg and abandon the kids with him, taking the cash for herself.”

The sheer sociopathy of it left me speechless. She had called my son a burden while she was actively plotting to abandon her own flesh and blood for a payout.

“Print it all,” I said, my voice cold as steel. “I want every transaction highlighted. We are going to bury her in court.”
