Chapter 7 - The Mistress's Arrogance

While Julian was being stripped of his high-priced legal representation in the county jail, his mistress, Victoria Sterling, was operating under a delusional bubble of high-society arrogance that had not yet been pierced by the reality of federal law enforcement.

At 4:00 PM on Tuesday afternoon, Victoria arrived at St. Jude’s Medical Center. She was dressed in an immaculate white designer trench coat, wearing oversized Chanel sunglasses, carrying a ten-thousand-dollar crocodile-skin handbag. She had not yet checked her bank accounts or received word of the federal seizures; she believed that Julian was simply detained on a minor domestic misunderstanding that his lawyers would resolve by evening, and that the five million dollars was safely sitting in her Swiss vault.

She marched directly past the hospital reception desk toward the Level III Intensive Care Unit, intending to find Clara’s room and use physical intimidation to force my recovering daughter into signing a liability waiver or dropping the police charges against Julian.

When she reached the frosted double glass doors of the surgical recovery wing, her path was blocked by two large men dressed in dark tactical suits—my personal security operatives, Marcus and David Ross.

"Excuse me," Victoria said in a haughty, commanding tone, trying to push past David’s shoulder. "I am a close family associate of Julian Montgomery. I need to see his wife immediately to discuss private estate matters."

David didn't move an inch. He stood like a statue of solid granite, looking down at her with expressionless, professional indifference. "This floor is restricted under a hospital security protocol and a judicial stay-away order, ma'am. Step back from the doors."

"Do you know who I am?!" Victoria shrieked, her voice rising in shrill indignation as she pulled off her sunglasses to glare at the guards. "I am Victoria Sterling! Julian Montgomery pays your salaries! When he gets out of that precinct tonight, I will have both of you fired and blacklisted from this city!"

"He isn't getting out tonight, Ms. Sterling. And he certainly doesn't pay our salaries," a calm, razor-sharp voice echoed down the hospital corridor.

Elena Rostova walked out of a nearby waiting alcove, holding a thick manila envelope and flanked by two uniformed federal process servers from the United States District Court. Elena looked Victoria up and down with an expression of profound, chilling aesthetic and professional disdain.

"Who the hell are you?" Victoria snapped, stepping back slightly as the process servers flanked her.

"My name is Elena Rostova, senior litigation counsel representing Clara Vance and the Vance Heritage Trust," Elena said, stepping forward until she was barely two feet from the mistress. She slapped the heavy manila envelope directly against Victoria’s designer trench coat with enough force to make the woman flinch. "You have been formally served, Ms. Sterling."

"Served? With what? A harassment suit?" Victoria scoffed, though her hands trembled slightly as she clutched the envelope.

"What you are holding is a Federal Civil RICO and Asset Forfeiture Indictment, accompanied by an immediate judicial freeze order signed by Judge Davis an hour ago," Elena said coldly, ensuring every nurse and visitor in the hallway heard her. "We have traced the four point eight million dollars you attempted to wire to Zurich from the Apex Consulting shell account. That money was stolen directly from my client’s private inheritance trust."

Victoria’s face drained of all color, her arrogant posture instantly collapsing into wide-eyed panic. "That... that’s a lie! That was legitimate consulting revenue! My Swiss bank account is private!"

"Your Swiss account was frozen by the Federal Reserve at 2:30 today under international anti-money laundering treaties," Elena stated smoothly, dropping the hammer that completely destroyed Victoria’s world. "Furthermore, the United States Attorney’s Office has just signed a seizure warrant for your Gold Coast penthouse, which was leased using embezzled corporate funds. As we speak, federal marshals are changing the locks on your apartment and impounding your luxury vehicles."

"You... you can't do that! Where am I supposed to go?! All my clothes and my jewelry are in that penthouse!" Victoria wailed, genuine, terrified tears finally spilling over her mascara.

"I suggest you call a bail bondsman or a criminal defense attorney, Ms. Sterling," Elena replied without a single shred of pity, pointing toward the hospital exit elevators. "Because if you ever step foot within five hundred yards of this hospital, my client, or her children again, I will have the FBI execute their pending wire fraud arrest warrant before your heels hit the pavement. Get out of my sight."
