Chapter 5 - The Ex-Husband's Mistake

Vipers always attract other vipers.
A week later, I received a knock on my new townhouse door. It was David, my narcissistic ex-husband, accompanied by a smug-looking lawyer.
"I'm filing for emergency full custody," David smirked, handing me a thick stack of papers. "Your mother called me. She told me you left Chloe unattended in a snowstorm, and now you're trying to frame her to cover up your own negligence. A judge is going to give me my daughter."
I looked at David. He hadn't paid child support in four months. He hadn't called Chloe on her birthday. He was only doing this because Eleanor had promised him a cut of the settlement if he helped her destroy my credibility.
I didn't yell. I didn't cry. I stepped back and opened the door wider.
