Chapter 8 - The Trial of Julian Vance

The criminal trial was a masterclass in dismantling a narcissist.

Sterling tried to paint me as a hyper-violent, paranoid mercenary who set a trap for a loving husband. But the evidence was overwhelming. The 4K footage of the assault. The mantrap footage from the garage. The financial records proving fraud.

But the final nail in the coffin was Julian himself.

Against his lawyer's frantic advice, Julian insisted on taking the stand. He believed he could charm the jury, just as he had charmed so many women before me. He wore a borrowed suit, flashing a practiced, melancholic smile to the jury box.

Diane took the podium for cross-examination. She didn’t yell. She didn't badger. She used cold, surgical precision.

“Mr. Vance, you claim my client attacked you unprovoked,” Diane said. “Yet, in the video, you tell her, ‘a woman learns her place.’ Can you explain how sweeping glass off a counter and lunging at a woman’s throat is a defensive maneuver?”

“She pushed me to the edge!” Julian snapped, the charm cracking. “She was defying me! A wife is supposed to respect her husband! She humiliated me in front of my family!”

“So you admit you attacked her to enforce ‘respect’?” Diane pressed.

“I was putting her in her place!” Julian roared, slamming his fist on the witness stand, his face turning purple with rage. “She thinks she’s better than me because she has money! She needed to be taught a lesson!”

The courtroom fell dead silent. The jury stared at him in horror. Julian froze, realizing what he had just confessed on the record.

Diane simply smiled and turned away. “No further questions, Your Honor.”
