Chapter 8 - The Flying Monkey’s Fall

The news of Eleanor’s formal proffer agreement—in which she agreed to testify against her own son in exchange for avoiding federal prison and forfeiting her illicitly acquired offshore accounts—spread through our affluent suburban community like wildfire over the weekend. With Julian locked in a cell and his mother legally muzzled by prosecutors, the remaining Montgomery loyalists attempted one final, desperate play in the court of public opinion.

On Sunday afternoon, while I was resting at my father’s secure estate with Leo, my cell phone began vibrating with a barrage of notifications. Julian’s older sister, Aunt Beatrice—a woman who lived three states away and had only seen Leo twice in his entire life—had launched a massive, hysterical smear campaign across social media and extended family group chats.

She had published a lengthy, weeping Facebook post accompanied by an old wedding photo of Julian and me. In the post, Beatrice painted Julian as a "devoted, hardworking father who was being framed and destroyed by a greedy, mentally unstable wife who fabricated physical abuse to steal his real estate business and kidnap his only son." She claimed that my broken arm was the result of a drunken fall, and begged the community to "pray for Julian’s release from this illegal feminist witch hunt."

Within three hours, the post had garnered dozens of sympathetic comments from country club acquaintances and distant relatives who knew nothing of the reality behind our closed doors.

When Elena saw the post on her iPad, she didn't get angry; she simply opened her legal database. "They want to litigate this in the public square?" Elena said coldly. "Let’s give them the discovery files."

With my authorization, and confirming that releasing physical evidence already entered into the public record during open bail hearings did not violate any judicial gag orders, Elena compiled a comprehensive, unvarnished digital response.

She replied directly to Beatrice’s viral post with a single, public link to a secure server. The link contained three core documents:

First: the high-resolution, timestamped police booking photographs of my shattered left wrist and sutured facial lacerations taken by forensic photographers at the emergency room.

Second: the certified transcript of Eleanor Montgomery’s sworn deposition, in which Julian’s own mother explicitly admitted on the legal record that her son had stolen three hundred thousand dollars of my inheritance, forged mortgage documents, and regularly threatened physical violence against our household.

Third: the official summary of the FBI financial crimes indictment detailing the four million dollars in fraudulent offshore wire transfers.

Elena added a brief, lethal caption of her own: "To Aunt Beatrice and anyone attempting to defame a victim of violent domestic felony assault: The evidence below is currently part of active state and federal prosecutions. If you continue to publish defamatory falsehoods regarding Sarah Vance or attempt to contact her minor child, Vance & Sterling Legal Group will add you as a named co-defendant in our ongoing multi-million-dollar civil defamation and harassment lawsuits. Govern yourselves accordingly."

The algorithm caught fire. Within thirty minutes of our reply, the public narrative completely inverted. The sympathetic comments on Beatrice’s post vanished, replaced by a tsunami of public outrage, disgust, and condemnation directed at the Montgomery family. By evening, Beatrice had deleted her original post, deactivated her social media accounts in absolute humiliation, and retreated into complete digital silence. The Montgomery family’s social standing was dead and buried.
