Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Coup

Monday morning, 9:00 AM.

The executive boardroom of Arthur’s logistics company was a mausoleum. The board of directors sat in silence, looking over the apocalyptic financial reports. Arthur was sweating profusely, his hands trembling. Julian sat beside him, his arm in a heavy cast, his face bruised and pale.

"We are officially insolvent," Arthur announced, his voice breaking. "Unless Silas Thorne wires the secondary funds, we file for Chapter 11 by noon."

The double doors of the boardroom swung open.

I walked in first, wearing a sharp, crimson designer suit, my head held high. I did not look like a broken bride. I looked like an executioner.

Behind me walked a man the board did not recognize. He was tall, broad-shouldered, in a bespoke charcoal suit, with ash-blond hair and piercing green eyes. He exuded absolute, terrifying power.

"Clara?" Arthur sputtered, standing up. "Where is Silas? Who is this?"

Elias walked to the head of the table. He tossed a massive legal binder onto the mahogany surface. It landed with a deafening thud.

"Silas Thorne doesn't exist, Arthur," Elias said, his voice echoing in the silent room. "He never did. It was a corporate fiction, backed by my capital, to get you to sign over the controlling shares of this company in exchange for your bailout."

Arthur blinked, his brain failing to process the reality. "What are you talking about?"

"My name is Elias Vance," he stated.

Gasps rippled around the table. Several of the older board members went completely white. They remembered the name. They remembered the blood on the ledger.

"You're dead," Arthur whispered, stumbling back into his chair. "The Vance family lost everything."

"We lost our money. We didn't lose our memories," Elias countered coldly. "Under the terms of the marriage contract you so eagerly signed, a failure to maintain liquidity triggers an immediate asset forfeiture. As of this morning, I own sixty-eight percent of this company. I own your shipping routes. I own your family estate. I own you."

Julian let out a guttural scream. "He hacked us! He stole the data! Clara helped him!"

"I didn't have to hack anything," Elias said, pulling the velvet pouch from his pocket and dropping the hard drives onto the table. "Your sister simply handed me the encrypted drives you were too arrogant to destroy. The drives that contain twelve years of forged safety reports, bribery receipts, and the exact paper trail showing how you framed my father."
