Chapter 6 - Surgical Ruin

Victor didn't just want them in jail. He wanted them destroyed in every aspect of their lives.

On Tuesday morning, Liam walked into Chicago Memorial Hospital for his shift, desperate to maintain a facade of normalcy. Instead of his scrub nurse, he was greeted by the Chief of Surgery, two armed security guards, and a representative from the medical board.

Victor had anonymously forwarded a comprehensive dossier of Liam’s sealed malpractice settlements to the board, along with the audio recording of him admitting to domestic abuse and extortion.

Liam was stripped of his badge, fired on the spot, and escorted out the front doors of the hospital in plain view of his colleagues. The paparazzi, mysteriously tipped off by Victor's PR firm, were waiting outside with flashing cameras.

Meanwhile, Beatrice was having lunch at her exclusive country club, trying to secure a desperate personal loan from a wealthy socialite friend.

Right as she took a sip of her champagne, two Chicago Police detectives walked into the dining room.

"Beatrice Sterling?" the lead detective asked loudly, turning the heads of every billionaire in the room. "You are under arrest for aggravated assault, battery, and conspiracy to commit extortion. Stand up and put your hands behind your back."

Beatrice screamed, kicking and thrashing as the cuffs clicked around her wrists. Her designer bag spilled across the floor, her diamonds flashing under the fluorescent lights of the police station a few hours later.

The mighty had fallen, and they hit the ground hard.
