Chapter 5 - The Annihilation Begins

The color completely drained from Beatrice’s face. "Victor? What… what are you doing here?"

"Watching a pair of rats confess to felony assault, coercion, and extortion," Victor said calmly, tapping his phone. "High-definition audio and video. Sent directly to my legal team."

Liam scrambled to his feet, suddenly looking like a terrified little boy. "Mr. Sterling—Victor, sir. It was a misunderstanding! She’s my wife!"

"Not for long," Maya spat.

"You can't do this!" Beatrice screeched, her carefully crafted high-society mask shattering completely. "We have rights! I'll call the police!"

"Please do," Victor gestured toward the door. "Because my lawyers have already submitted the forensic medical report to the District Attorney. A warrant is being issued for your arrest as we speak."

Liam lunged forward, not toward Maya, but toward his mother. "Mom, what did you do?! You told me he wouldn't find out! You told me her family was estranged!"

"Shut up, you idiot!" Beatrice slapped her own son across the face. The sound echoed like a gunshot.

I looked at Maya. A small, satisfied smile touched her lips.

"Get out of my apartment," I said. "Before I call the police myself."

They scrambled out the door like roaches scattering from the light. But the nightmare for the Sterling family wasn't ending. It had just begun.
