Chapter 18 - The Promotion

Two years after the trial, the drama of my past felt like a distant, faded nightmare that belonged to a completely different person.
I was sitting in my newly expanded corner office at Nova Tech, looking over the final deployment metrics for our flagship AI platform.
The software I had designed was a massive success, revolutionizing predictive data modeling for the healthcare sector.
There was a sharp knock on the glass door, and the CEO walked in, holding a bottle of extremely expensive vintage champagne and two crystal flutes.
“I hope I’m not interrupting the genius at work,” he smiled, closing the door behind him and setting the glasses on my large mahogany desk.
“Just running the final stress tests before the global launch on Friday, sir,” I replied, leaning back in my ergonomic chair.
“You don't need to call me sir anymore, Maya, considering the board just unanimously voted to make you the new Chief Technology Officer.”
I froze, completely stunned by the magnitude of the promotion, my mind struggling to process the massive leap in corporate power.
“CTO? I’ve only been here for three years,” I stammered, genuinely humbled by the unbelievable offer.
“You saved this company millions with your architecture, and you handle high-pressure crises better than anyone I have ever met,” he said, popping the cork on the champagne.
He poured the bubbling liquid into the crystal flutes, handing one to me with a look of immense, fatherly pride.
“You built your own empire, Maya, and I want you leading my engineering teams into the future.”
I took the glass, feeling the cold crystal against my fingers, and let out a long, joyous breath that carried away the last remnants of my imposter syndrome.
“I accept the position, and I promise you won't regret this investment,” I said, clinking my glass against his.
My new salary package included massive stock options, a corner suite on the executive floor, and the absolute power to hire and fire at will.
I had officially shattered the glass ceiling, building a fortress of success that my father’s pathetic, insecure ego could never even comprehend.
Later that evening, I updated my professional networking profile to reflect the massive promotion, knowing perfectly well that certain people still stalked my page.

Within twenty minutes of the update going live, I received a notification that a user named Olivia Julian had viewed my profile.
I simply smiled, taking a sip of my champagne, and blocked her account forever.
