Chapter 9 - The Aftermath

Six months later, my life looked entirely different.

I had been promoted to Senior Partner at my firm. My takedown of the Volkov syndicate’s financial structure had made me a legend in forensic accounting circles. I had my pick of clients, and I only took cases that mattered.

I sold my apartment and moved to a beautiful, sunlit penthouse overlooking the river. I didn't have to look over my shoulder anymore. The FBI had dismantled the Miami syndicate, and Derek and Elena were rotting in separate maximum-security facilities.

Sometimes, my mother would call me, crying, asking how our family had fallen apart. It was hard to hear, but I refused to let her guilt-trip me. I reminded her gently that family doesn't try to steal your life, and they certainly don't try to end it over a loan.
