Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

"Mom!" Leo cried out, sprinting across the room and crashing into my arms.
I held him so tightly I thought I might break his ribs, sobbing uncontrollably into his shoulder.
"I've got you, baby, I've got you," I wept, kissing his face over and over again.
But our reunion was violently cut short by the sound of slow, sarcastic clapping.
Julian stepped out from the shadows of the adjoining balcony, holding a silver handgun aimed directly at my chest.
"Well, well, I must admit, I am genuinely impressed, Evelyn," Julian sneered, his arrogant face twisted into an ugly mask.
"I never thought the pathetic, weeping housewife had this kind of fire in her."

"It's over, Julian," I spat, my grip tightening on my own weapon.
"We gave the files to the FBI and Interpol, they are already on their way."
Julian laughed, a cold, empty sound that chilled me to the bone.
"Do you really think I don't have an escape plan?" he mocked, stepping closer to us.
"I have a helicopter waiting on the roof, and I am taking my son with me."
"You, on the other hand, are going to bleed out on my expensive rug."

Julian raised his gun, his finger tightening on the trigger with absolutely no hesitation.
But before he could fire, a massive explosion rocked the foundation of the chateau.
