Chapter 5 - The Ambush at the School

Margaret was desperate. The criminal trial was looming, and her lawyer knew the 911 tape was incredibly damaging. She needed Leo to change his story.

On a Tuesday afternoon, I received a frantic call from the principal at Leo's elementary school.

"Mrs. Sterling, your mother-in-law is here," the principal said urgently. "She tried to bypass the front office and walk directly onto the playground during recess. She was calling out for Leo. Our security guard stopped her, but she’s refusing to leave."

"I am on my way. Keep my son inside!" I yelled, sprinting to my car.

When I arrived at the school, the police were already there. Margaret was screaming at a young officer in the parking lot.

"I have a right to see my grandson! His mother has brainwashed him!" she shrieked.

I marched right up to her, ignoring the police for a second. "You stay the hell away from my child!"

"Sarah, you listen to me," Margaret hissed, her eyes wild and unhinged. "You are going to ruin my life! I could go to prison!"

"You should have thought about that before you locked a suffocating child's medication in your purse," I replied coldly.

I turned to the police officer and handed him a copy of the restraining order I kept in my purse. "She is in violation of a court order. Arrest her."

Margaret was handcuffed for the second time in a month, screaming obscenities as the parents in the pickup line watched in absolute shock. The country club matriarch was finally exposed for exactly what she was.
