Chapter 10 - The Dawn of an Empire

Six months later.

The morning sun filtered brightly through the large windows of the DeLuca estate.

The heavy, suffocating gloom that had haunted the mansion for a year was completely gone.

Lorenzo sat at the head of the long dining table, sipping a fresh espresso.

He wore a light gray suit, looking ten years younger than he had on the day of the memorial.

In a highchair next to him, little Mia babbled happily, throwing a piece of toast onto the floor.

"No, no, principessa," Lorenzo laughed, picking up the toast.

A small pair of hands immediately reached down to clean up the crumbs.

"I have it, Mr. DeLuca," Sophia smiled, holding a cloth.

"Sophia, please," Lorenzo chided gently.

"I told you, you aren't the maid anymore."

Sophia blushed and sat down at the table, pouring herself a cup of coffee.

She was now the official head of the household and Mia's permanent nanny, paid a salary higher than most bank executives.

Across the room, Emma was running through the halls, chasing Vincenzo.

The giant head of security was laughing, pretending to be a monster.

Lorenzo watched them, a profound sense of peace settling over him.

He had cleansed his organization of every traitor.

He had crushed the Moretti family in a swift, brutal retaliation, ensuring no one would ever touch his bloodline again.

He was still the most feared man in New York, but now, he was also a father.

Lorenzo picked Mia up from her chair and walked out onto the grand balcony.

They looked out over the sprawling green gardens, vibrant with new life.

He held his daughter close, kissing the top of her dark curls.

"We survived, Isabella," Lorenzo whispered to the wind.

"I promise you, I will never let her go."

Mia giggled, reaching her tiny hands up toward the bright blue sky.

And for the first time in a very long time, Lorenzo DeLuca felt truly alive.
