Chapter 2 - The Hospital and the Vow

I drove entirely erratically through the dark, completely empty suburban streets, my hot tears mixing heavily with the blood steadily streaming down my chin.
My hands shook violently against the cold leather steering wheel as the sheer, absolute shock of the brutal assault finally began to settle in.
I aggressively pulled into the brightly lit emergency room parking lot and violently stumbled through the automatic sliding glass doors.
The triage nurse took one single, horrified look at my mangled face and immediately rushed me back into a highly secure, private trauma bay.
The glaring, incredibly bright fluorescent lights overhead made my massive headache exponentially worse as the doctor gently examined my bruised jaw.
"You have a severe hairline fracture and a very mild concussion, sweetheart," the kind, older physician explained with a deeply sympathetic, heavy sigh.
"Do you want me to call the police so you can officially file a domestic violence report against the exact person who violently did this?"
I stared blankly at the sterile, white hospital wall, a million conflicting, aggressive thoughts racing wildly through my exhausted, violently battered mind.
Filing a standard, basic police report would simply result in a minor misdemeanor charge that Jason's expensive lawyers would easily make disappear forever.
He would likely pay a incredibly small fine, smirk his arrogant way out of the courtroom, and continue living his perfect, unbothered life in my stolen house.
I desperately needed something much more devastating, something that would completely strip them of the wealth and social status they cared about more than me.
"No, I tripped and fell very hard down a steep flight of concrete stairs," I lied incredibly smoothly, my voice completely devoid of any real emotion.
The doctor clearly didn't believe a single word of my incredibly weak excuse, but he reluctantly documented the fake injury in my medical chart anyway.
I spent the entire, agonizing night sitting in that uncomfortable hospital bed, meticulously formulating a brilliant, absolutely flawless plan to completely destroy them.
I knew exactly where Arthur secretly hid his highly classified corporate financial records, and I knew exactly how deeply Jason was drowning in illegal gambling debts.
Margaret's precious, arrogant country club reputation was completely built entirely on a fragile, pathetic mountain of devastating, carefully hidden social lies.
They had spent my entire, miserable life violently pushing me into the dark, suffocating corners of their perfect, fake family portrait.
But they had fundamentally, catastrophically underestimated my quiet, highly observant nature, completely forgetting that I knew every single one of their filthy secrets.
I was going to systematically, ruthlessly dismantle their entire empire piece by piece until they had absolutely nothing left in this world but each other.
The brutal, throbbing fracture in my jaw hurt incredibly painfully, serving as a constant, violently burning reminder of the sacred promise I was making to myself.

I aggressively discharged myself against medical advice just as the golden sun began to slowly rise over the sleepy, completely unsuspecting city.
The massive, devastating war had officially started today, and I was going to be the absolute only person left standing at the end.
