Chapter 10 - A Real Family

The grand dining room of the mansion was completely transformed for the holiday celebration.
Instead of the sterile, silent perfection Cordelia had always demanded, the room was beautifully chaotic.
Colorful paper chains hung messily from the expensive crystal chandelier, personally crafted by Ivy and Maeve.
The massive mahogany table was heavily laden with simple, delicious, incredibly comforting homemade food.
There were no elaborate garnishes, no imported truffles, and absolutely no staged photographs for fake reports.
There was just a massive roasted turkey, huge bowls of creamy mashed potatoes, and Eleanor's famous green bean casserole.
Julian sat at the head of the table, carving the meat with a massive, genuine smile firmly planted on his face.
Owen, the tough head of security, was sitting near the end, completely covered in bright, sticky glitter from playing with the girls.
Maria, the head housekeeper, was loudly laughing at a terrible joke told by one of the friendly drivers.
Eleanor sat directly to Julian's right, expertly helping little Ivy cut her soft meat into tiny pieces.
"I want to make a quick toast," Julian announced softly, gently tapping his crystal water glass with a silver spoon.
The entire room instantly quieted down, looking respectfully toward the incredibly happy patriarch.
"A year ago, this house was merely a very expensive, very lonely fortress," Julian began, his voice thick with profound emotion.
He looked directly at Eleanor, his dark eyes shining with absolute, eternal gratitude.
"Then, a true angel walked out of the dark woods and taught me how to actually be a father again."
Eleanor blushed deeply, waving her hand modestly, but the tears welling in her eyes betrayed her deep emotion.
"To Eleanor, and to the beautiful, messy, wonderful family we have built together," Julian finished, raising his glass high in the air.
"To family!" the entire room loudly echoed in joyful unison.
As the clinking of glasses and loud, happy chatter filled the massive, bright room, Julian finally felt a profound peace.
He knew that Margot would be incredibly proud of the beautiful, loving home they had created.
