Chapter 5 - The Courtroom Massacre

The judge, a no-nonsense woman with sharp spectacles, slammed her gavel to quiet the room. Robert’s sleazy attorney, a man sweating through his cheap suit, stood up immediately.
“Your Honor, my client is entitled to fifty percent of the marital assets, including the $10 million inheritance and the Lake Tahoe property, as they were acquired during the marriage.”
Victoria stood slowly, adjusting her glasses. “Your Honor, opposing counsel is either willfully ignorant or illiterate. The inheritance and the property are bound by an irrevocable generation-skipping trust, naming my client as the sole beneficiary. Furthermore, we have filed a countersuit for financial restitution.”
Victoria placed a massive stack of folders on the judge's bench.
“Exhibit A, Your Honor. Proof of the defendant's attempt to fraudulently sell my client's primary residence using a forged power of attorney. Exhibit B: Bank statements showing the defendant embezzling over $400,000 from marital accounts to pay off his mother’s illegal gambling debts. And Exhibit C: Proof that the defendant used joint marital funds to lease a luxury apartment for his twenty-four-year-old mistress.”
The color drained from the judge’s face as she flipped through the documents. She glared at Robert’s lawyer. “Is this a joke, counselor? Your client commits real estate fraud, embezzles marital funds, and has the audacity to ask for half of an airtight trust?”
Robert was shaking. Evelyn buried her face in her hands, sobbing loudly.

“The marital accounts are frozen,” the judge ruled, her voice echoing like thunder. “Mr. Vance, you are ordered to vacate any remaining properties tied to the plaintiff. And I am forwarding Exhibit A to the District Attorney’s office for review of criminal fraud charges. We are adjourned.”
As we walked out, Robert fell to his knees in the aisle, completely broken. I didn't even look down.
