Chapter 8 - The Gala Redux

Six months later.
The Vance estate was once again ablaze with light. It was the annual Winter Charity Gala, the very same event where my life had shattered and rebuilt itself.
But this time, I wasn't hiding behind a limestone pillar in a black uniform.
I stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling mirror in the master suite, staring at my reflection. I wore a custom crimson silk gown that hugged my curves, a diamond necklace resting against my collarbone—the real one, gifted to me by Julian.
Julian stepped up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and pressing a kiss to my bare shoulder. "You look breathtaking," he murmured.
"I'm terrified," I admitted, my hands shaking slightly. "Everyone is going to stare."
"Let them stare," he said fiercely. "Let them see the woman who owns me."
We descended the grand staircase together. The moment we appeared, the string quartet continued playing, but a hush fell over the crowd of four hundred elites. Every eye was on us.
I held my breath, waiting for the whispers. Waiting for the judgment.
Instead, Julian stopped halfway down the stairs. He didn't ask for attention; he simply commanded it by existing.
"Six months ago, in this very room, the truth was spoken by a brave little girl and her extraordinary mother," Julian's voice rang out, clear and unyielding. "Tonight, I want to officially introduce you all to the future of the Vance family. My partner, my equal, and the love of my life, Sarah Hayes."
For a second, there was silence.

Then, an old state senator raised his glass. "To Julian and Sarah!"
The room erupted. Not the forced, calculated applause of the past, but genuine, roaring approval. Flashbulbs went off, capturing not a scandal, but a triumph. Julian looked down at me, his eyes shining with adoration, and kissed me deeply in front of the entire world.
