Chapter 6 - The Confrontation

They released me instantly. Julian didn't say a word as he led me to his waiting SUV. He just pulled me into his side, holding me so tightly it bruised, his jaw clenched in absolute fury.

"Are you hurt?" he demanded once the doors closed.

"I'm fine. I'm just worried about Lily."

"Lily is safe. Marcus is with her." Julian’s eyes blazed. "Eleanor has crossed the final line."

We didn't go home. The driver took us straight to a private airstrip where the Sterling family’s private jet was being prepped for takeoff. Eleanor was trying to flee the country.

Julian’s SUV slammed through the chain-link gate, screeching to a halt directly in front of the aircraft’s boarding stairs.

Eleanor was standing at the top, a Birkin bag clutched in her hands, freezing like a deer in headlights as Julian stepped out of the car. I stayed inside, watching through the tinted glass.

Julian walked up the stairs slowly, exuding sheer dominance.

"Julian, please," Eleanor begged, her previous arrogance entirely evaporated.

"You tried to cage the woman I love," Julian said, his voice carrying over the roar of the engines. "You tried to take a mother away from her child."

"I was desperate! You ruined my family!"

"Your family ruined itself. I merely delivered the bill." Julian pulled a document from his coat. "The authorities are three minutes away. All your accounts are frozen. Your jet is grounded. You have absolutely nothing left."

Eleanor fell to her knees, sobbing, the exact way she had at the gala. But this time, there was no audience. No champagne. Only the cold reality of her karma.

As the sirens wailed in the distance, Julian turned his back on her and walked down the stairs, returning to the car. He slid in next to me, taking my hand and pressing a kiss to my knuckles.

"It's finished," he promised.
