Chapter 7 - Shifting Dynamics

With the Sterlings utterly dismantled, a strange quiet descended upon the Vance estate.
Justice had been served. My husband's name was cleared. But in the quiet, the reality of my situation hit me. I was a widowed housekeeper living in the master wing of a billionaire's mansion.
One evening, I packed my small duffel bag while Lily slept. I had saved enough from my severance and the compensation Julian forced the Sterling estate to pay for Michael’s death. I could start over. Give Lily a normal life, away from the terrifying intensity of the elite world.
I carried my bag down the grand staircase, intending to leave a letter, but Julian was waiting in the foyer. He was leaning against the marble pillar, his arms crossed, staring at my bag with an unreadable expression.
"Going somewhere?" he asked, his voice low.
"Julian, I... I have to go," I whispered, the heartbreak already tearing at my chest. "You saved us. You gave me justice. But I don't belong in this world. I'm just the help. Your board of directors, your friends... they'll never accept me. It will ruin your reputation."
Julian uncrossed his arms and closed the distance between us. He didn't look angry; he looked determined.
"Do you think I care about a reputation? Do you think I give a damn about a board of directors?" He took the duffel bag from my hand and tossed it onto the marble floor. "The only thing I care about is that you and Lily are safe. The only thing I want is to wake up and see you in my home."
"Julian, we are from different worlds."
May you like
He cupped my face, forcing me to look into his intense, storm-gray eyes. "Then I will burn my world down and build a new one for you. You are not leaving me, Sarah. I won't survive it."
He kissed me, and this time, there was no desperation, only a profound, anchoring certainty. I melted against him, realizing that running away was no longer an option. I had found my home.
