Marcus and Chloe were forced to move into Eleanor’s cramped, outdated guest bedroom.
Eleanor’s own financial situation was entirely dependent on the allowance I used to give Marcus, which meant her lifestyle was rapidly crumbling as well.
Without my money, the tension in that house became a ticking time bomb.
Chloe had been promised a life of luxury. She had been promised designer bags, spa days, and a wealthy husband.
Instead, she was stuck in a dusty bedroom with a broke, unemployed man who spent all day screaming at his divorce lawyers on the phone.
A week after the spa room incident, the inevitable explosion occurred.
I received the details from David, who had completely cut off his mother and brother but still heard the gossip through the family grapevine.
Chloe realized the ship was sinking, and she decided to secure her own lifeboat.
While Eleanor and Marcus were out at a desperate meeting with a cheap legal aid lawyer, Chloe packed her bags.
But she didn't just pack her clothes.
She went into Eleanor’s master bedroom and completely raided her jewelry box.
She took the diamond earrings I had bought Eleanor. She took vintage pearl necklaces. She took a Rolex watch Marcus had carelessly left on the dresser.
Chloe stuffed thousands of dollars worth of stolen jewelry into her duffel bag and walked out the front door, never to return.
When Marcus and Eleanor came home and discovered the theft, Eleanor completely lost her mind.
“This is your fault!” Eleanor screamed at Marcus, throwing a vase at his head.
“You brought that thieving little tramp into our lives! She took everything!”
Marcus, pushed to his absolute breaking point, screamed right back at his mother.
“You told me to keep her! You told me it was a brilliant strategy to steal Clara’s money!”
The alliance they had formed to destroy me had completely collapsed, leaving them to tear each other to shreds.
They tried to call the police on Chloe, but the authorities couldn't locate her.
She had pawned the jewelry for cash and vanished into the wind, leaving Marcus entirely alone.
