Chapter 4 - The Walk of Shame

Ten minutes had passed.
The heat inside the spa room was stifling, and Chloe was crying so hard she was practically hyperventilating.
I had proven my point. I had established absolute dominance.
“Clara, please,” Sarah begged, tears running down her own face. “I can't watch this anymore.”
I looked at my pregnant sister-in-law, the only innocent person in this miserable family.
“You should leave, Sarah,” I told her gently. “Take David and go home. You don't need this stress.”
David nodded, looking at his mother with absolute disgust before grabbing his wife's hand.
“You guys make me sick,” David spat at Eleanor before turning and walking out of my house forever.
Once the front door closed behind them, I pulled the heavy brass key from my pocket.
I slid it into the deadbolt and turned it.
The loud click echoed like a gunshot.
I pushed the heavy glass door open, and a massive cloud of hot, suffocating steam rolled out into the hallway.
Marcus stumbled out first, dripping wet, completely naked, and gasping for cool air.
Chloe crawled out behind him, wrapping her arms around herself, shivering uncontrollably despite the heat.
They looked pathetic. Stripped of their dignity, their lies, and their clothing.
“Where are my clothes?” Marcus demanded, trying to cover himself with his hands.
“Your clothes are locked in the biometric safe room in the basement,” I informed him.
Chloe looked around wildly. “My things! My suitcase!”
“Locked away as well,” I smiled. “I couldn't risk you stealing anything on your way out.”
Eleanor took off her expensive trench coat and threw it at her naked son.
“Clara, you are a monster!” Eleanor shrieked. “You can't throw them out into the street naked!”
“I’m not a monster, Eleanor. I am a gracious host.”
I pointed to a black plastic trash bag sitting in the corner of the hallway.
“I left two old bath towels in that garbage bag. You can wrap yourselves in those.”
Marcus stared at me, his eyes filled with a mixture of hatred and absolute terror.
“You are going to regret this, Clara. I will ruin your reputation.”
“You don't have a reputation to stand on anymore, Marcus,” I replied.
I crossed my arms and stared him down.
“Now, put on the towels and get out of my house before I have you arrested for trespassing.”
Marcus quickly grabbed the cheap, scratchy towels from the trash bag, tossing one to Chloe.

They awkwardly wrapped the fabric around their waists, shivering in the cool air-conditioning of the estate.
Without another word, my husband and his mistress walked out the front door, wearing nothing but damp towels, stepping into the cold, unforgiving night.
