Chapter 6 - Digging the Grave

While I spent the next twenty-four hours recovering and pumping milk for Arthur, my family's machine went to work.

My father didn't just want to break David physically; he wanted to dismantle his entire life. He deployed forensic accountants from military intelligence to audit David’s prized asset management firm.

What they found was worse than we could have ever imagined.

Marcus walked into my room, holding a thick manila folder. "Sarah, did you sign any documents for David’s company in the last six months?"

I frowned, thinking through the brain fog. "Yes. He said it was standard tax paperwork for a joint account."

Marcus slammed the folder on the table. "He forged your signature as a guarantor on a three-million-dollar offshore loan. His firm is completely insolvent, Sarah. He’s been running a Ponzi scheme, using new investor money to fund his mother's lavish lifestyle. He was setting you up to take the fall if the SEC ever audited him."

A cold numbness spread through my chest. He hadn't just abandoned me to die. He had actively planned to ruin my life to save his own skin.

"Can you prove it?" I asked, my voice completely void of emotion.

"We already handed the decrypted ledgers to the FBI," Marcus smiled, a dark, dangerous expression. "They are drawing up the federal warrants as we speak. He is going to walk into a nightmare."

I looked at my brother. "I want to be there."

Marcus shook his head. "You need to stay here with Arthur."

"No," I said firmly, the blood of a General finally igniting in my veins. "He left me to die on my kitchen floor. I am going to watch him lose everything."
