Chapter 11 - The Marina Takedown

Detective Ramirez did not waste a single second.

Within thirty minutes, heavily armed SWAT teams had completely surrounded the South Bay Marina.

I sat in the back of an unmarked police cruiser, watching the scene unfold through the tinted windows.

The pouring rain from the previous night had turned into a thick, eerie coastal fog.

Eleanor was attempting to board a rusted, shady smuggling vessel at the end of Pier 4.

She looked absolutely terrified, frantically waving a small stack of cash at the boat's captain.

"Police! Drop your weapons and put your hands in the air!" a megaphone blasted through the fog.

Red and blue tactical lights instantly cut through the darkness, illuminating the dock.

Eleanor shrieked, dropping her bags and trying to sprint the opposite way down the wooden pier.

She didn't make it five feet before three heavily armed officers tackled her to the wet planks.

I watched in absolute silence as they dragged my mother up to her feet.

They slapped cold steel handcuffs tightly around her wrists, reading her Miranda rights.

As they walked her past the cruiser, she locked eyes with me through the dark glass.

Her face was a twisted, pathetic mask of pure hatred and undeniable defeat.

She mouthed a vicious curse at me, but I simply turned my head away.

She was no longer a terrifying, omnipotent force in my life.

She was just a sad, broken criminal who was going to spend the rest of her life in a concrete box.

Detective Ramirez tapped on the car window, giving me a reassuring nod.

"We got her, Samantha," he said gently.

"It is finally over."

A massive weight instantly lifted off my chest, allowing me to take my first real breath in months.

I had successfully defended my father's honor, and I had protected his precious legacy.
