Chapter 5 - The Confrontation

An hour later, Marcus managed to bypass the neighborhood's outer gate and physically climbed the stone wall of the estate. My security team intercepted him immediately, pinning him to the manicured lawn.
I walked out the front doors, flanked by Victor, looking down at the man I had devoted over a decade of my life to. His designer blazer was stained with mud. His hair was disheveled. He looked pathetic.
"Let him up," I commanded.
The guards stepped back, keeping their hands on their holsters. Marcus scrambled to his feet, breathing heavily. The manipulative charm was gone, replaced by pure, unadulterated rage.
"You psycho!" he screamed, lunging forward. Victor stepped in my path instantly, but I held up a hand, stopping him. I wasn't afraid of Marcus. Without his money and his status, he was nothing.
"You ruined me!" Marcus spat, pointing a shaking finger at my face. "Over a stupid affair? Men have affairs, Olivia! You don't destroy a man's life over one mistake!"
"It wasn't one mistake," I corrected, stepping closer to him, my heels clicking on the stone driveway. "It was a twelve-year campaign of disrespect. You used my father's money to build your firm. You used my patience to deal with your insufferable mother. You used my grace to raise your ungrateful children. You drained me, Marcus. And you thought I was too stupid to notice."
"I'll sue you!" he roared. "I'll drag you through the courts! Half of everything is mine!"
I reached into Victor's jacket and pulled out a manila envelope, tossing it at Marcus's chest. It hit him and scattered across the grass.
"Read it," I said. "It's the post-nuptial agreement you signed in 2018. The one you thought was just a standard liability waiver for the firm's merger. It explicitly states that in the event of financial malfeasance or infidelity, you forfeit all marital assets to me."

Marcus looked down at the papers, his eyes wide. "You tricked me..."
"No, Marcus. You just never bothered to read anything you signed because you thought you were the smartest person in the room." I looked at the guards. "Throw him off my property. If he comes back, have him arrested for trespassing."
