Chapter 3 - Chloe's Downfall

Chloe was the weakest link. She was spoiled, vicious, and careless.
By Wednesday, the rumors of the board meeting had leaked to the press. Sterling stock plummeted by twelve percent. Chloe, desperate to maintain her influencer lifestyle and socialite status, decided to take matters into her own hands.
She cornered me in the underground parking garage of my hotel, flanked by two burly private security guards.
"I don't know what kind of blackmail you're using on the General, Elara," Chloe sneered, waving a manicured finger in my face. "But I have your old medical records. The psych evaluations from before you ran away. If you don't back off our company, I’m leaking them to the press. I'll destroy your military career."
I didn't blink. I simply pulled out my phone and tapped the screen.
"Go ahead," I said calmly. "But while you were busy trying to dig up my past, I was looking into your present. Specifically, the offshore accounts in the Caymans where you’ve been funneling millions from the Sterling charity foundation."
Chloe’s jaw dropped.
"I already forwarded the dossier to the IRS and the FBI white-collar division ten minutes ago," I smiled.

Right on cue, sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder as they approached the hotel. Chloe’s security guards, realizing they weren't paid enough to fight the feds, slowly backed away.
"You're a monster," she whispered, tears ruining her expensive makeup. "No," I replied, stepping past her. "I'm just returning the favor."
